Song History

At the end of 2004, I had a bit of time to reflect on things and how the Hair Thieves was going, the upshot being I needed to clear out a few bits of equipment and streamline my recording process. All was going well, a few bits of kit sold, but then I missed some of them, so went out and bought a shed load more eqipment. Doh!

In March 2005 the BBC News website ran a story about the UK's only Space Impact crater, the so-called Silverpit structure which is situated several hundred metres under the North Sea floor, about 80 miles east of the Yorkshire coast. (The above image is taken without permission from the BBC site).

I liked the title and the story so jotted it down for future reference.

On the 4th June 2005, (whilst slightly hungover), I set up my equipment, set some effects up and pressed record. I then recorded about 6 different variations on a theme, using the effects. Some I discarded due to mistakes, others due to sounding quite bad as I stomped on various effect boxes. I finally settled on a set of effects and rough song structure and hit record. This became Silvepit. It is one take, with no overdubs. It is a bit ropey in places, but I like the percussive effect of the filter effect (which I set up as a preset ages ago and have no clue how to recreate it, as is the delay settings). I like the way the high end distorts in a not nice digital way. So enjoy.
