Song History

The original idea for the collaboration between the Hair Thieves and Gordon Hay
Gordon Hay came from one of the Hair Thieves weekly chats during October 2001..

Gordon sent several sets of lyrics over for perusal. "If you leave you leave" seemed to be the most Hair Thieves type lyric. Some work was started in the November on the music, but was put on hold for the "Creme Brulee" Christma gig.

Work resumed on the music in mid January 2002. The verse part is based on an idea taken from one of the many Hair Thieves ideas tapes from 2000 \ 2001. A rough Demo was recorded late January abd sent to Gordon for approval.

The whole song was recorded over the weekend of 17/19 May 2002 and mixed 26/27 May.

You'll have to ask Gordon about the inspiration for the lyrics....

Lyrics

(by Gordon Hay)

You say you've had enough
There's nowhere left to go
You're sick of arguing
There's nothing left for you to throw
This home that we've made
You've grown to despise
Suburban hopes and dreams
have shattered right before your eyes

Chorus
If you leave you leave
I won't try to stop you
and if you go you go
Life goes on without you
I'll go on without you

you say I can have our friends
you hated them anyway
so wrapped up in themselves
living a middle class cliche
IF you suffered one more party
you swear you'd go insane
dying at those attempts
at being urbane trying to entertain

Chorus X 2

You say you'll leave this town
Steal the first car that you see
drive all night from the city lights
put some distance between you and me
dive until the tank runs dry
then hitch a ride somewhere
it don't matter where you go
it's away from me so you don't care

Chorus X2
