Song History

The original idea for the song came one Thursday evening when the paper boy delivered the free newspaper. It reminded me of a girl I knew from school who did a similar paper round. This girl had two names. One that we knew her by at school and one the one that her parents had christened her with.

I'd known her about ten years before I found out her real name.

This got me thinking about girls with two names.

There were several girls I knew at Uni, that did not go by their proper christian names, (one even changed her name legally to the new name).

The lyrics may or may not be about one, all or none of them?

Musically the intro / verse was written sometime in 1999. The chorus and bridge was written in September 2000. The whole thing was put together first in Cubasis and later re-recorded in Cubase.

Thanks to Gordon Hay, Irene Jackson and Richard Wilcox for critiques of the various versions of lyrics that I've thrown at them and Snabbu for comments on previous mixes.

New version added October 2003. Fixed some of the issues with the drums and string section. This song was re-recorded as an acoustic version for inclusion on EP1.

Lyrics

The springtime rays across your face
That first time glimpse of you
I'll never be the same again
My girl friend's an hundred miles away
I know I should think of her
but I think of you some more each day

You are a paradox of beauty
Your are the girl with two names.
Lost my heart, but made me feel guilty
You are TGW2N
Never liked who you used to be
Changed your name to be set free
You are TGW2N

October rain it sings your praise,
Naked on your front room floor
I'll never be the same again
My best friends girl for just one week
Been going through all my friends
Just like some f*cking STD

You are a paradox of beauty
Your are the girl with two names (TGW2N).
Stole my heart, but made me feel guilty
You are TGW2N
Never liked who you used to be
Changed your name to be set free
You are TGW2N

The winter chills show in your gaze
that last time glimpse of you
I'll never be the same again
My girl friends gone and you've moved on
guilty conscience, tainting me
Tell me, where did my life go so wrong

You are a paradox of beauty
Your are the girl with two names.
Broke my heart, but made me feel guilty
You are TGW2N
Never liked who you used to be
Changed your name to be set free
You are TGW2N
