The Hair Thieves. An ecelctic mix of indie punk pop jazz rock ambient soundtracks

Why The Hair Thieves?

After University, Rollasoc finally found a job which enabled him to fund a PC and some musical equipment, in order to write and record some music on. The name of the project was going to be "Rubik's Duvet" , (the name coming from a David Baddiel sketch on his insomnia and how his black duvet managed to become grey and crinkly). However this name ran into a bit of trouble, when the company that holds the rights to the "Rubik's" name said the name could only be used, if royalties were paid to them. Yeah right!

A search for a new name started. For a while, the name changed to "Human Gnome Project, this had the unfortunate problem of some bloke cyber squatting the URL, or at least, owning it, but not using it. (I've just checked and it is currently available).

Finally, the name "The Hair Thieves" was chosen. The name comes from a Eddie Izzard sketch, about why old ladies only ever buy dog food and hair nets.

After initially spending much of 2000 and 2001 as a solo type project, 2002 saw the first real incarnation of The Hair Thieves, with a gig at Worfestock and subsequent expansion of the lineup before the inevitable implosion that occurred, due to illness and the proverbial musical differences, (mostly due to everyone compromising on a common ground, meaning no one really wanted to do it).

2003 saw the Hair Thieves as essentially a one man band once again, as everything went temporarily pearshaped, with a couple of failed attempts of working with other vocalists and the music going in various directions, before settling back into Rollasoc's eclectic vision. 2004 saw The Hair Thieves back with some new tunes, and a new studio setup. 2005 sees more tunes, some competition work and the start of an albums worth of material being collated. 2005 also sees the expansion of the lineup as E joins on guitar.

2006 saw, saw the release of two EPs and work starting on recording the first Hair Thieves long player..
2007 sees an expansion of the line up, EP3 and hopefully, but not probably the Hair Thieves album.
